Calpe Collaborators v San Luis (away) Wednesday 16th October 2024
Score 0 – 10
Our first away match, where we were given a warm welcome from Scott Malden and his team at San Luis and to be expected – this was going to be a tough game. The rinks were difficult with some very peculiar ‘runs’ where you felt that something else had taken control of your bowls.
Team Dave Wilde, the first half of the game was looking very promising and by end 10 it was all square at 8-8, unfortunately it was a game of two halves and San Luis got the better of us finishing 12-19 up. A valiant effort from our team.
Team Dave Ings, taking on a strong team lead by their Captain, took advantage of their home ground knowledge and gave our players a tough game and a convincing win to the home team. Well done to San Luis and well done to our team for keeping up the determination to keep positive.
Team Dudley, off to a slow start but by the 14th end it was all square at 11-11 and it was looking good until the oppos came in and took 6 shots off us, an unfortunate set back because it was looking very promising and now it was an uphill challenge for the last 3 ends where SL took another 4 shots and won 12-21. A great effort from all, great fight back but an unfortunate result, you deserved better.
Team Greg, another tough game, where no matter what you did, they did that bit better, their skip was walking on water with some incredible shots and again local knowledge of the rink playing a big part of their success….here’s hoping that our rinks give San Luis a run for their money when we re-match in January.
Looking forward to our game against San Miguel at home on 23rd October and a change of luck. Onwards and Upwards!!

Calpe Collaborators v El Rancho Wednesday 09th October 2024
Score 10 – 0
On a blustery but fine day Calpe BC welcomed our visitors from El Rancho for week 2 of the 2024/5 Winter League season. After last week’s match at El Cid, we were determined to roll up our sleeves and our bowls and bring home a win.
Team Dudley were off the starting blocks and in the first six ends were off to a flying start at 11-1 up, but losing 4 of the next 5 ends, our visitors were starting to creep up, but the team shifted down a gear and won the next 4 ends bringing the score to 21-7. Sticking on 21, El Rancho cashed in another 4 shots and the end result was a win for Calpe 21-11, well done that team!
Team Dave Hard also had the bit between their teeth and by the 9th end were 17-4 up and continued in the second half, by topping up the score with another 12 shots. A solid performance from Lesley, Anne, Paul and Dave, the final score 29-10 a great result well done.
Team Bob were also off at a pace, winning 7 of the first 9 ends with the score at 12-3 and continued to top up the shots on the back 9, although only winning 4 ends, brought in a further 14 shots whilst our visitors contributed a further 8 and brought the end score to 26-13 victory. Another great result, well done.
Team Greg, well it was a shaky start, dropping a 5 on end 2, which seemed to kick start the team and the concentration showed for the rest of the match, winning 12 out of the 18 ends and collecting a score of 26 to El Rancho’s 11, so happy with that result and very well done.
All in all, a good day at the office, enjoy the success of today because we have some tough games ahead of us. Next Wednesday we are away at San Luis where we will meet some very handy players, and they will give us a hard time, but we can raise to the occasion. Onwards and upwards Collaborators!

Calpe Collaborators v El Cid Lancers Friday 04th October 2024
Score 4 – 6
A bright, sunny and warm morning greeted us at El Cid. Being the first match of the season and with a team that had not played together before, there was a little trepidation as the Lancers are a formidable team packed with Winter League veterans. To add to the mix, El Cid’s carpet was the one previously at BBC so it was going to be a very quick learning curve.
On rink 2, Dave Hard’s team were up against it from the start against a very strong team and steadily fell behind through the game, the final score being 8 – 27. I think the other Collaborators teams think they dodged a bullet not facing this Lancers team. Hard luck Dave and his team.
On rink 3, Greg Sperring’s team also faced a strong team and at the half way stage, the scores were very close but on the back 9, the Collaborators managed to pull ahead and the final score was 18 – 11, well done Greg and his team.
On rink 4, Dudley Davies’s team had a ding dong battle with the Lancers team and at the half way stage, the score were level but in the second half, Alan Phillips remembered how to bowl again and the Lancers pulled ahead, the final score being 11 – 18. Hard luck Dudley and his team.
On rink 5, Bob McAllister’s team again faced a strong team and the first half of the game was pretty even with the Collaborators just a few shots ahead but thankfully nerves were held and the lead maintained to the end, the final score being 15 – 8. Well done Bob and his team.
Unfortunately although the match finished two games each, the shot difference meant El Cid gained the 2 bonus points, the final score being 4 – 6.
