Calpe Bowls Club, since its creation had been situated close to the Playa Levante in Calpe on the Costa Blanca North coastal region of Spain. It has had a wonderful backdrop of the Peñon de Ifach, known as Calpe Rock. However circumstances have changed and the club has now been re-located to Calpe Tennis Club (Club de Tenis Calpe) where eight new rinks have been built on two bowling greens.

A friendly bowls club with an active membership of around thirty five people. Members meet three times a week for a ‘roll-up’ and also players in the Costa Blanca Northern League, as well as inter club cup matches.

The club also has its own members cup competitions which are run, along with the league and cup competitions during the ‘bowls season’ from October through to the end of March.  Also the prestigious Calpe Open is played annually on the first Sunday of March.

Claimed by its founding members to be the oldest bowls club on the Costa Blanca, the green at Paraiso Mar was set down as part of the apartment complex in 1986. When Paraiso Mar advertised in November 1986 for interested local bowlers 20 attended the start-up meeting and the first formal meeting to establish the bowling club was on 8 January 1987.

The President appointed was Eddie Edwards, and the Captain was Doug Grewcock. The first rule that the Committee passed was that the Club must be a mixed Club, probably to get away from the strictly segregated bowling that most had experienced in the UK.

According to records there was an older bowling establishment at Hotel Bahia Vista at Javea but that folded shortly after Javea’s “Inn on the Green” opened. This was closely followed by the opening of nearby Benitachell Bowling Club and El Cid Bowling Club.

In 1989 Calpe Bowls Club joined the Costa Blanca Northern League.

Fees And Subscriptions

Annual Club Subscriptions – The current fee is €36 per person (Jan 2023) irrespective of the period played in any one subscription year (January to December). Price includes LLB federation fee.

Joining Fee – There will be no fee for new members upon joining the club.

Green Fees

RULES

1. No smoking or drinking on or near the green

2. Whites to be worn above waist.

3. Flat shoes only (no heels or ridges)

4. No chalk marks on the green.

5. No use of Grippo or similar.
