A bright, sunny, typical July day that thankfully brought a sea breeze that kept everyone from getting overheated, the new shade also made a huge difference. The competition went very smoothly and the clear winners with maximum points and the best shot difference were Dee and Keith Hamilton. Our own Steve Davis and Gary Tory were voted the best dressed pair, even their sunglasses were emblazoned with the Stars and Stripes, well done to them.

Calpe and Jávea Green Combined Presidents v Captains Cup 2024
In the lovely Spring sunshine, the day started with a ‘SPIDER’ – it’s always fun to watch your bowl heading nicely for the jack and then it gets side-swiped by several other bowls coming from all directions, but there is always a lucky winner and that was Gee Omwal, who carried away a nice bottle of Cava for her skills!
For the main event, which was never expected to be anything other than competitive and there were some very close games, some of which were decided on the very last end. After 18 ends of intense concentration, Joe Schulein (President of Javea Green), lifted the trophy on behalf of John Weatherill (Calpe President) and the players in blue so congratulations to the team. Coming in a close second, the Captains Lot (lead by Dave Hard – Calpe Captain & Keith Hamilton – Javea Green Captain) all clothed in Red, put up a good fight but it wasn’t to be. A good day was had by all and our thanks go to Glenn Tullet of LUMON Currency Exchange who presented the trophy and treated the players to a tasty array of Tapas which were prepared by Calpe Tennis Club Bar & Restaurant.

Bright New Future For Calpe Bowls Club
Calpe Tennis and Bowls clubs sign up for a long-term partnership.
Calpe Tennis Club President, Eduardo Aguirre Pastor, and Bowls Club President, John Weatherill signed a partnership agreement on Wednesday !0th February 2021
Formed in 1986 and northern Costa Blanca’s oldest club, Calpe Bowls has, until now, been based at Paraiso Mar on the Levante beach. There, a small 4-rink green, carpet replacement costs and uncertainty over the club’s future, have prompted a move to a new central venue – the Calpe Tennis club complex.
Here, 8 generous rinks and superior facilities will allow the bowls both to expand and host more ambitious competitions. More importantly, the move will secure the Bowls Club future. In time, it is hoped, bowls could become a more integrated part of the town’s sporting interests.
